FEMINIST FATALE JULIETTE FRETTE
IS PLAYBOY’S MISS JUNE 2008
“Why is a feminist posing for Playboy – again?” questions Juliette Frette, the Northern California beauty who is making her second appearance in the pages of Playboy as Miss June. The self-proclaimed 21st century feminist penned an essay to accompany her pictorial and makes her case for why she bared all without compromising her feminist principles. The first time Frette posed was in the October 2005 “Girls of the PAC 10” pictorial as a senior at UCLA and now she is back and gracing the pages in the June 2008 issue of the magazine.
The blond beauty is a writer and artist currently residing in San Francisco. She is working on expanding the thesis she initially wrote for her woman’s studies major titled “Posing for Playboy from a Feminist Perspective” into a novel. When she isn’t writing, you can find Frette painting, hiking, travelling and reading. She has also appeared Playboy Special Editions including January/February 2006 issue of College Girls, 2006 Playboy’s Natural Beauties, 2006 June/July Lingerie, 2006 July/August College Girls, 2006 Playboy’s Nudes, and 2007 Playboy’s Sexy 100. In 2006, Juliette was also featured as a Coed of the Week (January) and Coed of the Month (March) on Playboy.com.
Regarding the apparent contradiction of a feminist posing for Playboy, Frette responds: “Yes, Playboy has at times been at odds with the feminist movement about perspectives on female beauty and nudity. Yet Playboy has directly and indirectly facilitated much progress for women and American culture. Playboy has been a pioneer in promoting female sexuality in a puritanical, censored society and at the same time supports women’s political rights, especially in the area of sexual and reproductive issues. The magazine has given a voice to great writers, thinkers and political figures in support of civil rights, free speech and free thought.”
